Pronar Buttlerfly Mower
PDD830C

High quality precision engineered Butterfly Disc Mower Conditioner Set for Shorter Wheelbase Tractors of 150 horsepower plus.

PRONAR PDD830C is a butterfly disc mower conditioner set with swath conditioner. An excellent alternative to expensive self-propelled mowers. Suitable for shorter wheelbase higher power tractors of 150-180 hp. These mowers have variable conditioning intensity and double shock absorbers on the conditioner fingers. The butterfly has two 3 meter wide rear mounted disc mowers and is designed to interact with a front mounted mower of min 3 m working width. Swath width of such a set is 8,3 m. The cutting beds have modular break gears for quick recovery from outages in a few mins. Blades and/or blade holders can be changed in seconds. In case of grounding over difficult terrain, the cutting unit is protected by the inbuilt rise and tilt feature.

Butterfly mower sets are no longer the preserve of big contractors with big budgets. The situation has changed with some manufacturers downscaling the weight of the units to bring butterfly mowers within economic reach of less intensive users.
It is not the price alone that is bringing these products to market, tractors are having more power packed into shorter wheelbases. Although a tractor may have the punch to operate a butterfly, they haven’t always the size to handle heavy mower sets safely.

Cut Your mowing time from days to hours!

Pronar has the answer for hyper-productivity with their buttlerfly sets optimised for more compact high horsepower tractors.

Pronar has had a presence in UK for some years now, but has recently embarked on a robust marketing campaign to get its product more widely adopted here. here, with Agritrend LTD, Truro Farm Machinery in Cornwall and SBM Machinery in West Wales leading the way.

In combination with the front mounted Prona PDF 300C, the new set made easy work of a wet lodged crop

Agritrend LTD is a design house for heavy duty grassland machinery and was well placed to see the attraction of the Pronar butterfly sets for many of its existing customers. Agritend has 5 depots around the country and supplies about 250 heavy harrows each year withing the UK.

With this background, we are well placed to judge the qualities of a machine and its suitability for the UK and Irish markets. Having used one of the unit ourselves on 530 acres in the last two seasons we speak from experience.

Optimised for tractors between 150 and 180 hp

The PDD830C the mower conditioner set has a working width of 8.3m and is designed to work with a front mower of at least 3m.

The weight is 1,390kg, and what’s more, that weight is balanced rather than hanging to the right-hand-side of the tractor, making it far more stable and predictable on the headlands.

It is also a simple machine with no electronics or complex hydraulic systems to go wrong.

There is a well designed hydraulically mediated auto reset of the break-back system requiring two hydraulic connections with of them which must be in float.

Each bed has seven discs and the conditioner is fitted with conventional steel tines; both are driven by shafts with break gears designed for rapid swap/replace in the field if the need arises

Performance

Our experience is that the set will cut 11-16 acres per hour at a steady pace of 11 km/hr depending on swath conditions and leaving a neat and even finish.

To those used to a side-mounted mower on a tractor in the 100hp+ bracket, the speed at which the butterfly set cuts the crop is a productivity transformation, turning several day’s work into hours. It demonstrates the work rates normally associated with a large contractors’ kit based around a 250hp tractor.

Well priced

The butterfly with conditioner PDD830C retails at £28,500 plus VAT.

Add in the cost of Pronar’s latest 3m front-mounted unit, (The 301C) which sells normally sells for £16,950 is offered with the butterfly with £2000 discount for a total price of £43450. Price includes delivery to the farm gate and 3 years warranty.

Customers should not be wary of buying from a lesser known brand. Pronar is very well established in German, French and Scandinavian markets and considered a premium contender for quality and reliability. The three-year warranty, which comes as standard on all Pronar equipment, should help temper any fears. It is also worth noting that Pronar make all of their components in house including the hydraulics and cutting beds. The approach is geared for control and quality over the products shipped.

With regard to back-up, Agritrend keeps a supply of wearing spares in Sussex, Wiltshire and Wales and for each machine we supply, a similar model is kept in reserve stock.

Pronar Makes a High Quality Butterfly Affordable

The emergence of butterfly mower sets for shorter wheelbase tractors brings a major boost to productivity within the sensible economic reach of many more farmers.

The Pronar PDD3000 is not designed for cutting thousands of acres a year because that sort of intensive use is best left to heavier machines at a far higher investment price.

The trend is for more power from tractors with four-cylinder engines. These butterflys give shorter, lighter, tractors with 150hp or more, something useful to do and the cost is not prohibitive for farmers or baling contractors who can then offer faster mowing as an extension to their services without breaking the bank.

Pronar is not the first to enter this market but it is competitive in price, simple and with high attention to build and component quality. If you have 150+ cows and you want to cut your grass in hours rather than days, this could well be just the tool you need.
